The Houston Texans played well last year with some extensive injuries. Dunta Robinson, Andre Johnson, Matt Schaub, Ahman Green, and more. Even with all of those perenial Pro Bowlers hurt, they finished 8-8. What will happen this year? Here's a preview. The Texans front 7 is among the best in the NFL. Demeco Ryans anchors the linebackers, and Mario Williams and Amobi Okoye are one of the best tandems out there considering they combined for 19.5 sacks last year. New linebacker Zac Diles is expected put up numbers very similar to those of fellow linebacker Morlon Greenwood. The secondary is the team is often criticized. But Fred Bennett and Jacques Reeves are two very underrated cornerbacks, and nickelback Jamar Fletcher has been the most impressive DB in training camp. The safeties, CC Brown and Will Demps are a good combo of coverage and hard hitting that many teams lack. The formerly shaky offensive line has also found some stability. 1st round pick Duane Brown will start at left tackle which will drastically improve the blocking on Matt Schaub's blind side. Last year, he took alot of shots from his blind side, which amounted to many fumbles and got him hurt late in the season. The team also is employing the zone blocking system that the Broncos have used for ages to pump out 1,000 yard running backs. By using multiple running backs, the Texans should have the best running game they've ever had. It includes power with Chris Brown and Ahman Green, and breakaway speed with Steve Slaton. And before Schaub went out last year, he was in the top 5 in passing yards. So with an all new running game and the decent recieving corps. they have now, its not unreasonable to say that Matt Schaub could make the Pro Bowl. All in all, the Texans should be considered in the same class as the other wild card bound teams such as Tennessee, Denver, Cleveland, Jacksonville, the Jets, and Cincinatti. So if things go as planned, you should see the Texans playing in more than 16 games this year.

Continue reading "Playoffs for the Texans I think so"
