Will Korff's Houston Texans fan blog

While I don’t want to take anything away from the Vikings, Houston lost the game more than Minnesota won it. Our Texans lost the turnover battle 3-1 in the game giving up 2 interceptions in the opponent’s redzone and fumbling while in Viking territory. Jacques Reeves recorded Houston’s lone turnover in the game picking off a Gus Frerotte pass and returning it for the score. While Reeves made arguable the biggest play in the game for the Texans, he was rarely able to hold his own against the Minnesota receiving corps giving up 2 of Frerotte’s 3 TD passes and was beat numerous other times.

There is a colossal difference in 4-4 and 3-5 and now we will find out a lot about this team in the next couple months.  

Looking ahead at what this may mean for the rest of 2008, Houston has to treat every game as a must win in order to achieve the preseason goal of reaching the playoffs. Playing in the AFC South we must assume that the Tennessee Titans are going to win the division. They are currently 8-0 and to expect them to start losing is just unrealistic. That means we’re left battling for a wildcard bid.

The Houston Texans win in obvious fashion in their week 8 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals puts them right where they were last year when they had their first non losing season in team history.

The Texans key players have defiantly stepped up in recent weeks. Matt Schaub has been playing like a pro bowler in the past couple weeks going 59 of 50 for 547 yards and 5 TDs, Steve Slaton is currently the 2nd leading rusher amongst rookies and Andre Johnson has been on a terror that the rest of the NFL can’t help but take notice.

Defensively Houston has received an extra boost by the return of star cornerback Dunta Robinson who picked off a pass in the game verses the Bengals. Mario Williams is proving himself as the top DE in the NFL, and the Texan LBs have been a pleasant surprise this season especially Zach Diles who actually is ahead of DeMeco Ryans in tackles for the Texans.

After droping the first four games of the season the Texans have won the last two consecutive games, which is something Houston could not do in their first two years of existence, and now the 0-7 Bengals come into Reliant to face-off against a hot Texan squad.

Schaub coming off what was probably his best game of the season and Andre Johnson showing he has to be in the arguement when it comes to best recievers in the NFL, The Texans should be able to control the skies on offense. Thats not to say the running game lead by Steve Slaton will struggle verses the 27th ranked rush defense of Cincinnati.  

On the other side of the ball expect Houston to dominate the Bengals 32 ranked offense in the NFL.
